I had noticed some posts and pictures showing up on my Flickr and WordPress feeds showing a baby Sandhill Crane at Burnaby Lake. It was a beautiful, hot afternoon so my son and I took a quick visit to Burnaby Lake to see if we’d be able to catch a glimpse. I wasn’t disappointed as the little family was hanging out when we got there. Our timing was pretty good though because by the time we were leaving the Colt had disappeared into it’s nest in the long grass.

I had seen Sandhill Cranes before at Reifel, but hadn’t seen any at Burnaby Lake before (as I understand it this pair has been here for a few months). And I had never seen the Sandhill baby before, so I was enthralled with it’s cuteness. He was even kind enough to stretch a little for the camera, looking almost like a little dancer striking a pose. 🙂
Aww! How adorable. Thank you for sharing these.

You’re welcome. I was hoping to catch sight of a baby Sandhill for a few years now. Was thrilled to see one so close to my home. So hard to believe this little fuzzball will morph into a majestic adult.
