So for today’s post I was only able to snap one picture. We were leaving the bird sanctuary when I looked up and saw this red tinged fellow. I brought my camera up and was able to get two shots before he flew away. The other shot was not so good though, so I stuck with this one. This is a new one not only for my 2016 list, but #99 on my all time list.
I am thinking it’s a House Finch, although I was debating if it was maybe a purple finch. Who knows, perhaps it’s some sort of hybrid (I welcome any thoughts on this ID, please comment below).
This blog was created to encourage myself to learn how to differentiate species and to do a little research to increase my knowledge of our feathered friends. So any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Based on the tail it is a house finch. Not notched enough for a purple finch. I would like to see the undertake covets and back.

Thanks for that ID point. I too wish I captured more of this fellow but he wasn’t feeling very photogenic ;-( Have a great day!
