My next bird I was able to identify while at the beach was a Western Gull. As you could imagine there were a lot of Gulls around, but I am now only appreciating the challenge of identifying the type of gull. Plus there’s the complication of the age of the bird, as they do look different in the first years of their lives. I’m not 100% sure of the picture of the flying gull above, as I can’t see his feet. But this picture at the bottom shows the red mark on his lower mandible, and also shows the pink legs of the Western Gull.

This is a Glaucus-winged Gull.
