Just as we were starting to head out I heard a big ruckus and looked up to see large black wings with a flash of red. Actually there were two of them, squawking at each other and flying to the tops of the trees. My son was getting a little frustrated because he was getting ready to go and I’m running after some Woodpeckers. So he waited in the car for a few minutes while I chased down the Pileated Woodpecker. They were too high up for me to get a good detailed shot, and they didn’t stick around very long.

I remember living in Lillooet and there was one of these guys that used to drum on the metal roof of the building right beside me at 5 or 6 in the morning. Wow it was loud, that beak must pack a powerful punch.
