This is a pretty common bird in the Lower Mainland. I’ll usually see them in most spots I go birding. I was going to call it a duck, but in reading the identification on the Cornell website, I found out “they’re closer relatives of the gangly Sandhill Crane and the nearly invisible rails than of Mallards or teal” What I like about these guys is not just their intense red eyes, but they have the coolest looking feet.
