

This is a classy looking duck. The males have that rich brown colouring on their heads and of course their trademark pin-tail. The females are more subtle. The picture on the side would be close to what the females look like but I believe this is a juvenile male, mostly based on the colouring on the end of the wings.
Many of these ducks can be found at Reifel in the winter months, but are pretty rare in the summer. This picture below (from a few years back) shows the subtle colouring and cool patterns. I even had a picture in my archives that showed some bright green feathers hiding in the wings.
