It was a sunny Saturday afternoon, and my son and I chose Colony Farm Park for our afternoon walk. Well I probably swayed the vote a bit … through Flickr I heard there were some Lazuli Buntings hanging out here and I was hoping to add this one to my list. Usually we park down the road by the Community Gardens, but today we started our journey at the parking lot just after the railroad tracks. There was another couple just coming back to the car and the lady was taking pictures of a bird way up high in the trees. She told me that it was a Lazuli Bunting way up high in the tree! I would have considered myself lucky, however it was pretty windy and the bird was pretty high up, not really allowing a nice clear picture. But it definitely allowed me to correctly identify it and therefore this cute little guy enters my 2015 list at #52!
The first time I spotted this type of bird was in Lillooet two years back. That year the bird eluded me and I only got a fuzzy picture of him hiding in the leaves. Last June though I was luckier and managed two spot it at two different sites, once by the Old Bridge and then down by the spawning channel. It is still my goal to get a nice clear picture of this beautiful blue bird. Perhaps I’ll have some luck this weekend as I’m going on a road trip!
