European Starling [Sturnus vulgaris] ~ 2016 #43

European Starling ~ Granville Island, Vancouver, BC ~ March 21, 2016

The European Starling, although not native to North America is now one of the most abundant songbirds on this continent (from the allaboutbirds website). Despite that I have very few pictures in my archive of these guys.

During the winter they are more brown with white spots, but in the summer they get their iridescent purple/green hue. My son and I were enjoying a snack on Granville Island and this little starling was hoping that if he looked cute enough that maybe we would drop a crumb. He was quite persistant but alas no crumbs were dropped.
