
We walked from the beach towards the little pond and as we approached the sparrows that were foraging on the ground quickly disappeared into the darkness of the bushes, making it hard to get any good shots. Luckily I do have a few shots (below) of this pretty sparrow from previous years.

Excerpt from the All About Birds site: “Miners in the Yukon at the turn of the twentieth century woefully referred to the Golden-crowned Sparrow as the “no gold here” bird, because its song resembled that depressing phrase. They also interpreted its song to say “I’m so tired,” prompting them to dub the bird “Weary Willie.”
