
The Ring-necked Duck is a diving duck that we only see in our region in late fall through the early spring. According to the allaboutbirds site the birds are just found in this area over migration and they winter further south. However according to my own picture archives combined with the ebird data they are found at many areas in the lower mainland all throughout the winter.

The picture at the top of is the female Ring-necked duck that we saw at Ambleside, and the picture below is the male which was taken last spring.
