The Lesser Scaup is pretty hard to distinquish from it’s close relative, the Greater Scaup. They say the Lesser Scaup has a little bump on it’s head, whereas the Greater Scaup’s head is more rounded. I’m pretty sure this is the Lesser Scaup, although honestly I have a hard time telling the difference even when shown side by side pictures ~ lol!
These diving ducks are another popular duck in the lower mainland. These pics were taken at Burnaby Lake in February. I like the picture just above, it looks like the female is giving the male the evil eye.
