
According to allaboutbirds.org the Lesser Scaup is one of the most abundant and widespread of the diving ducks in North America. Indeed they can be found in many bodies of water around the Lower Mainland.

The two pictures above were both taken at Stanley Park in February of this year, and the female Scaup below was photographed at Burnaby Lake last fall. I like their bright yellow eyes and iridescent head.
