One thing I realized in featuring the Common Merganser for this post, is that I really need some more good merganser pictures. They are so cautious and quick to flee. This year my first spotting was one hanging out in Lost Lagoon, which I wasn’t able to identify until after I got home and reviewed my pictures on my computer (picture heavily zoomed and cropped).
Also, it seems for this post I am featuring the ladies. I dug into my archives and pulled a few pictures from a few years back.
I’d often see them in Lillooet, as they love to hang out on the rapids at the spawning channel. They make swimming against the current look easy, although you can’t tell from this picture below as she takes a rest in some calm waters. [NOTE TO SELF: Really should make a trip out there again soon … ]
