Although it does take some convincing (and not all can be convinced) the Red-Winged Blackbirds are more than happy to grab tasty seeds right from your hand. Unlike the Chickadees, who will daintily pick out one at a time, the Red-winged Blackbird won’t leave until all the food is gone.

FACT: “Male Red-winged Blackbirds fiercely defend their territories during the breeding season, spending more than a quarter of daylight hours in territory defense. He chases other males out of the territory and attacks nest predators, sometimes going after much larger animals, including horses and people.”
