I find the Hooded Merganser to be somewhat elusive. They generally spot me before I spot them and work hard at putting distance between us. I did spot this lone Hooded Merganser while at Reifel, and he did endure a few poses before he fled.
This picture below could be a female, except for the yellow eyes and darker bill, which leads me to believe that it’s actually a juvenile male.
