While walking along the paths at the Lower Spawning Channel in Lillooet I heard a distinctive sound coming from the opposite side of the Channel. As soon as I heard the loud chittering sounds my ears and eyes perked up, definitely different sounding than the neighbourhood songbirds. I looked across to the other side and spotted a Belted Kingfisher sitting in a tree. I tried to close the gap between us, but as soon as I took another step closer the Kingfisher flew away. A few minutes later I heard/saw him a distance away so I snapped a few shots. You can see from the picture below that he must have caught himself a tasty morsel.

The first time I saw a Belted Kingfisher was last year. There was a playful pair at the Upper Channel. There were even taking their chances and harassing the Osprey pair. I must have followed them back and forth for about an hour and got some closer (but fuzzy) pictures. This picture below was one of my favorites from that day.
