Swainson’s Thrush [Catharus ustulatus] ~ #69

Swainson's Thrush
Swainson’s Thrush ~ Burnaby, BC ~ July 8, 2015

I spotted this bird while taking a walk along the Fraser River, at a place I don’t often go. I heard this one first and stood there in the path just looking at the trees, trying to determine where that noise was coming from.

Then I spotted movement and this cute little Thrush landed on a branch somewhat close by. I only managed to snap a few shots before he (she?) flew away, obscured by the leaves and branches once more. I didn’t id it right away, but came home and compared the pics to the descriptions I found on allboutbirds.org. Almost thought it was a Hermit Thrush however the hermit thrush doesn’t have that buffy colouration on the neck. [and of course if anyone seeing this believes I incorrectly identified this bird please let me know] Regardless, not just a new one for the 2015 list, but a lifer for me!
