It was a good day for Raptors on this sunny November day. When I walked into Reifel the lady mentioned there was a Barred Owl on the property so when I was in the area I started looking in the trees. Actually you usually just have to look for birders because they’re all flocked around whatever tree the Owls are perched in. I didn’t spot it so I wandered down a little side trail to see if I could spot any interesting birds from one of the blinds they had set up. But no luck in the blind.
I was in the blind for just about 5 minutes, and headed back to the main trail to meander my way back to the car. Now at the beginning of this little trail, that I just passed 5 minutes ago, there was a gathering of people, camera’s pointed to the trees.

This fine fellow wasn’t hiding, in fact he was pretty close to the trail and totally unobstructed. Don’t know how I missed him on the first pass. It looked like he was trying to have a nap, but really didn’t seem all that bothered by the commotion going on around it. I mean there were many other trees to choose from that would allow him some privacy. Perhaps he liked the spotlight.
He’d close his eyes, and then slowly open them, surveying the curious folks, then would puff up and close his eyes again. I, for one, was very happy that he chose that perch that was so in the open, must have taken at least 25 pictures of him.
