My first official spotting of this bird this year was at Ambleside. We started at the beach and then made our way to the big pond. After analysing the duck situation I looked up to see a Great Blue Heron, perched in a tree.
These are very common in the Lower Mainland and have seen them a few more times already this year. A few weeks ago we walked around (a slushy) Lost Lagoon and ran across this guy above, sitting right beside the trail. The lighting wasn’t so good as the light was in front of us, but I brightened up the pic up a bit.
Then this past weekend at Reifel came across at least a half dozen of them. Some of them were doing some fishing, while others were flying overhead showing off their fabulous wingspans. I never tire of this handsome bird.
A few years back I got some good shots of a heron while at Burnaby Lake. Click here to check out that post
