
American Coots are quite distinct looking water birds. I usually see them during the winter months sprinkled in with the Mallards, Wigeons, Wood Ducks and Teals.

Last year was the first time I had seen large flocks of Coots (see picture above). Maybe they were gathering together pre-migration? On the day I got this picture there was an eagle that was looking to pick out some lunch from the flock. The eagle was not successful that time.
