I spotted some ducks a little distance away. I didn’t have my binoculars so it wasn’t until I got home that I realized that I had spotted one male Ring-necked duck, hanging out with some female buffleheads.
Just a few weeks ago we went to Stanley Park, and at Lost Lagoon there was a solitary male Ring-necked, this time hanging out with the Mallards, Wigeons, Scaups and Wood Ducks.
The males are especially easy to identify with the ring around their bill. However they get their name from the Cinnamon Ring around their neck, which can been seen in the pictures above and below.

I don’t see these guys (and gals) very often, so it’s nice when I do stumble across them. Especially at a place like Lost Lagoon where they can be viewed in close proximity.
