
While at Deer Lake we saw quite a few ducks. Not overwhelming but a good start to the 2016 list. The 8th bird that I added to my list in 2016 was the Gadwall, a dabbing duck.

They usually hang out in small flocks and their plumage is a little non-descript. In fact the female Gadwall (see picture above) could easily be confused with a female Mallard. According to the article in Wikipedia they are closely related the Wigeon.
