Song Sparrow ~ George C Reifel Bird Sanctuary, Delta, BC ~ February 25, 2017 [click on any picture to enlarge]One of the proud members of the Little Brown bird club ~ or as I saw on wikipedia “LBJ ~ Little brown job”. Song sparrows bring to mind an image like the one below, captured last summer. Cute little bird on a perch, singing it’s song for all to hear.

FACT: “Some scientists think that Song Sparrows of wet, coastal areas have darker plumage as a defense against feather mites and other decay agents that thrive in humid climates. The darker plumage contains more of a pigment called melanin, which makes feathers tougher and harder to degrade than lighter, unpigmented feathers. ” ~ allaboutbirds.org

Lovely shots and an interesting read! I used to overlook sparrows and lump them all together, till I realized how MANY and varied they are. Their singing can be so compelling 🎶
